Amith, It’s a combination of Temperature ( 121 *C and Pressure ( 1.15 bar)wherein the maximum lethality rate is found .Again its specific for moist heat steriluzers and based on established studies on many an existing micro organism flora.

One reason is that boiling point of water is 100’c so above 100’c water generate Stem and another reason is that hyper thermophilous bacteria can survive up to 112’c so we autovale 121’c with 15 lbs

12 log reduction is required in autoclave , to achieve 12 log reduction temperature and time to be set and validate.
Autoclave temperature in pharmaceutical industry is 121°c bz of lathelality rate & saturated steam point optimum at this temperature. Second thing is Geobacillus stearothermophillus killing/ survival temperature. Standard for sterilzation is 121+3 °c.
But this is not uniform you can also challenge on 126+3°c , 130+3 °c depends upon your sterilzation material can bear / stable at this temperature.
