How do we choose HPLC or Gas chromatography for a sample analysis?

It depends on the chemistry of the separation that you need. GC requires a volatile compound that can be made gaseous, therefore you need to look into the compound you are analysing/detecting. Both are good for organic compound separations. Hplc is good also for ion, polymer and biomolecule analysis. Pretty basic explanation… quantitative chemical analysis by Daniel c. Harris and Principles and Practice of Analytical Chemistry are great books that will go into more depth.
